Applied Research and Development Grants (ARD)

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

These grants aim to offer Canada-based companies access to the expertise, knowledge and skill sets of Canadian colleges. Grants awarded under the ARD program can support applied research and development projects carried out by Nergica’s team (Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles) and partners.

Funding is provided for up to 80% of eligible project costs.

Annual financial assistance

Less than $40,000

Between $40,000 and $150,000

NSERC review times

  • 5-6 weeks
  • 3-5 months

Eligible partners: private, public or non-profit organizations

Duration: Between 1 and 3 years

Are you a Canadian SME looking to innovate and overcome operational or technical challenges?

Thanks to a bank of subsidized hours, you would be in a position to:

  • Access research equipment;
  • Validate technologies;
  • Enter new markets.

As a renewable energy research centre recognized by National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Nergica enjoys access to both provincial and federal research funds.

Thanks to these programs, Nergica has completed mandates ranging from 20 to 40 hours for thirty or so SMEs such as yours, and at practically no cost.

Project implementation process

  1. Identification of issue to be resolved
  2. Nergica refers you to an Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA)
  3. Verification of your eligibility by an ITA
  4. Project development
  5. Approval by ITA
  6. Completion of your project

Starting with a small, low financial risk project can sometimes pave the way to further research as part of larger, wider-reaching projects.

Additional funding may be obtained for projects ranging from 300 to 2,000 hours of research a year (which corresponds to $25,000 to $150,000 a year).
