{"id":17298,"date":"2022-05-27T10:42:52","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T14:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nergica.com\/publication\/deploiement-filiere-hydrogene-vert-quebec\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T14:11:58","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T18:11:58","slug":"deploiement-filiere-hydrogene-vert-quebec","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/nergica.com\/en\/publication\/deploiement-filiere-hydrogene-vert-quebec\/","title":{"rendered":"Nergica est bien outill\u00e9e pour participer activement au d\u00e9ploiement de la fili\u00e8re de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne vert au Qu\u00e9bec"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following the announcement of Quebec\u2019s strategy on green hydrogen and bioenergy (\u201cthe Strategy\u201d), Nergica intends to leverage its expertise in renewable energy to support the deployment of the green hydrogen sector in Quebec.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Already well-established as a center for research and innovation in renewable energy, Nergica has a research facility fully equipped to carry out efforts to develop innovative solutions and processes for the production, storage, and integration of green hydrogen into microgrids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Proud of its expertise in this area, Nergica enthusiastically welcomes the priority actions announced in the Strategy that call for the production of green hydrogen, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the production of synthetic fuels from renewable sources;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">energy storage and grid balancing to manage winter peak demand, particularly as a complement to wind power;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">replacing fossil fuels in off-grid systems;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the production of gas from renewable sources through methanation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To this end, Nergica is currently developing microgrid management strategies aimed at reducing or replacing the use of fossil fuels in off-grid systems, particularly through the use of hydrogen as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">storage solution to better manage energy surpluses and thereby ensure greater grid resilience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Furthermore, these efforts are already aligned with the Strategy, as they also aim to encourage the involvement of local and Indigenous communities in the development of green hydrogen and bioenergy sectors\u2014one of the Strategy\u2019s key objectives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Every coin has two sides<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the other hand, the Strategy reveals, more than anything else, the many challenges that must be overcome to achieve the GHG reduction targets for 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Although the Strategy reaffirms the Quebec government\u2019s goal of increasing bioenergy production by 50% by 2030\u2014which corresponds to adding approximately 70 PJ of energy\u2014 no such target is set for green hydrogen production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Furthermore, although the Strategy places great emphasis on the inventory of available lignocellulosic biomass for producing first- and second-generation bioenergy, it overlooks the potential of algal biomass for producing third-generation bioenergy.
