Applied research and development grants

These grants are designed to provide businesses based in Canada with access to the expertise, knowledge, and capabilities of Canadian colleges. Applied Research and Development (ARD) grants can support applied research and development projects conducted jointly by the Nergica team (Cégep de la Gaspésie et des îles) and its partners.
RDA projects may address any stage of the process, from research to innovation. The project must aim to address an applied research challenge; it must not be part of a service contract.

NSERC evaluation deadline
For projects under $40,000: 5 to 9 weeks
For projects between $40,000 and $150,000: 6 to 7 months
Eligible partners
Applied Research and Development (ARD) grants support projects led by college researchers in partnership with organizations in the private, public, or nonprofit sectors, while encouraging universities or other colleges to participate as co-applicants.
Financing
Colleges may use their Applied Research and Development (ARD) grant to fund direct research costs as well as certain indirect costs, up to a maximum of $150,000 per year for a maximum period of three years, not including the cash contribution from partner organizations, which is taken into account in calculating cost-sharing under the College and Community Innovation Program.

As a renewable energy research center recognized by the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Nergica has access to provincial and federal research funds.
Thanks to these programs, Nergica has carried out 20 h to 40 h mandates for some thirty SMEs like yours, at virtually no cost.

By starting with a small, low-risk project, we are sometimes able to continue our research in larger projects.
Additional funding can be sought for projects of 300 to 2,000 research hours per year (i.e. between $25,000 and $150,000 per year).
