November 9, 2022

Press release

– Gaspé, November 9, 2022 – On the sidelines of the 27the Conference of the Parties (COP27), Nergica, a renewable energy research and innovation center, will host the second edition of its Transition Solutions Symposium on November 15, 2022 at the Marriott Hotel in Ottawa. Bringing together key figures from the fields of research, industry, and the energy transition, this symposium is the only Canada-wide event dedicated to the deployment of the technological, social, and political solutions essential to accelerating the energy transition in Canada.

In collaboration with stakeholders in the field, Nergica aims to contribute to achieving Canada’s ambitious climate change goals. For this reason, the speakers invited to this symposium will discuss the actions that should be prioritized in the coming years to accelerate the energy transition. They will also address the challenges and solutions related to the rapid deployment of green alternatives. Several panelists will participate:

  • Peter Tertzakian, Deputy Director, ARC Energy Research Institute;
  • Brandy Giannetta, Vice President, Public Policy, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA);
  • Yvan Cliche, Fellow, Senior Energy Researcher, Center for International Studies and Research (CÉRIUM);
  • Moe Kabbara, Director of Electrification, The Transition Accelerator;
  • Sara M. Alvarado, Executive Director, Institute for Sustainable Finance;
  • Stuart Galloway, Executive Vice President, Société de financement et d’accompagnement en performance énergétique (SOFIAC);
  • Mark Chapeskie, Vice President of Program Development, Human Resources, Electric Industry of Canada;
  • Frédéric Côté, CEO, Nergica;
  • Eamonn McGuinty, Policy Advisor to Canada’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change.

“The energy transition is one of the most significant challenges facing our society. To succeed, we need the right conditions. The Transition Solutions Symposium is an opportunity to define these conditions and link them to concrete actions—all with the goal of contributing to efforts to slow the escalation of climate change. Now that the second edition has concluded, we believe this event will foster meaningful and open dialogue among key stakeholders in the clean energy sector. Nergica looks forward to sharing the Symposium’s recommendations to serve in an advisory capacity to various governments, supporting them through the energy transition.”

– Frédéric Côté, CEO of Nergica

COP27: A Favorable Global Context

The topics discussed at the Transition Solutions Symposium are closely linked to the challenges faced by several United Nations member states, which have been invited to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, through November 18 for COP27. Canada will participate in this event to reaffirm its commitment to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aim, in particular, to take concrete and immediate action to limit the rise in global average temperature to well below 2 °C.

Anyone wishing to attend the Transition Solutions Symposium can register here.
