GASPÉ, on April 21, 2022 – Nergica would like to commend Quebec Premier François Legault’s announcement of the launch of two calls for tenders totaling 2,300 megawatts of renewable energy, including a 1,000-megawatt block of wind power. These significant calls for bids demonstrate the confidence in and relevance of the wind and renewable energy sectors for Quebec’s energy future.
“Since Nergica has been working to build and develop the wind energy sector since its inception, we are pleased with the announcement made by the Legault government. This demonstrates that we have proven know-how and expertise and that we are ready to meet Quebec’s needs with clean energy and cutting-edge technologies. It is essential to increase our capacity to generate green electricity in order to reduce the share of fossil fuels in Quebec’s energy mix and meet the province’s climate goals. “This underscores the essential role of renewable energy in general—and the wind energy sector in particular—in the fight against climate change,” said Frédéric Côté, CEO of Nergica.
This announcement comes on top of the Apuiat wind project, the 300 MW and 480 MW wind power tenders announced in the fall of 2021, and the 1,200 megawatts announced on April 19 by Hydro-Québec, Énergir, and Boralex, involving the construction of three wind projects. These announcements are part of a strategy to meet the expected growth in electricity demand in Quebec and among our neighbors.
“Quebec-based companies are stepping up to support the energy transition both here and elsewhere. These calls for proposals clearly demonstrate that today’s technologies are competitive and represent sectors of the future that will create wealth in all regions of Quebec. “This announcement sends a strong signal for the future and encourages us to continue on the path of innovation and development in these sectors,” said Frédéric Côté.About Nergica
