Instrumentation and Control Technician

Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, the Instrumentation and Control Technician works with measuring instruments and control devices. He or she also maintains the process control, monitoring, safety, communication, and data acquisition systems for Nergica’s research infrastructure. They also conduct field surveys to update the electrical and instrumentation diagrams for all of our facilities. They are called upon to provide technical support for the installation and maintenance of research equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Review schematic diagrams and technical documents such as schematics, manuals, standards, and codes;
  • Maintains backup and audit trail documentation for systems and control instruments;
  • Reads, prepares, and corrects electrical drawings;
  • Configure and test communications (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, etc.);
  • Installs, configures, calibrates, and maintains measurement and control instruments, as well as indicators (pneumatic, analog, and digital);
  • Configures and programs PLCs and automation controllers;
  • Installs and connects electrical, pneumatic, and fluid connections;
  • Inspects and checks the operation of systems and instruments to diagnose malfunctions;
  • Adjust, repair, replace, and remove components;
  • Maintains a data acquisition system (OSIsoft PI) and creates new data points (tags);
  • Replaces measuring instruments in wind measurement towers and wind turbines;
  • Follows the scheduled maintenance schedules;
  • Performs corrective/reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance;
  • Stays abreast of technological advances in the industry and the field and maintains a high level of expertise in instrumentation;
  • Clearly demonstrates a commitment to safety rules and guidelines;

Requirements

  • College diploma in instrumentation and control with at least 5 years of relevant experience (any other combination of experience and training deemed relevant may be considered);
  • Be familiar with the basic principles of industrial programming (Grafcet, Ladder, Function Block, Text, etc.) as well as advanced programming languages (Visual Basic, Python—a plus);
  • Knowledge of OSIsoft PI software or any other database software (a plus);
  • Manual dexterity, attention to detail, strong problem-solving and communication skills (Ethernet, serial, fiber optics, etc.);
  • Good physical condition and the ability to work at heights;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Bilingualism is an asset;
  • A Class C license is a plus;

The workplace is located in Gaspé.

This is a 40-hour-per-week position.

Compensation will be based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
