Sherbrooke, April 14, 2026 – Nergica and the University of Sherbrooke are proud to announce a new collaboration aimed at accelerating the deployment of solar solutions in Quebec. This collaboration, driven by a shared vision of the energy transition, aims to implement six projects, representing a total investment of at least $2.5 million by 2030.

This strategic partnership builds on the complementary strengths of both organizations: Nergica’s field expertise and applied research, combined with the testing, modeling, and demonstration capabilities of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT), particularly through its 3IT.Énergies, dedicated to renewable energy.

Collaborative and Innovative Projects

The projects will initially focus on developing smart microgrids for cold climates, capable of effectively integrating solar and wind power in remote areas, such as northern Quebec. They will also include advanced management tools to better monitor, optimize, and ensure the reliability of energy production.

The collaboration will also facilitate the development of robust communication systems for remote areas, as well as the optimization of solar and hybrid wind-solar systems in northern conditions.

A Partnership to Accelerate Energy Innovation

In light of the climate emergency and the need to accelerate the energy transition, this strategic partnership will enable the development, testing, improvement, and deployment of sustainable energy solutions tailored to Quebec’s grid and local conditions.

By joining forces, the two organizations aim to foster the development of cutting-edge technologies, support the training of a highly qualified next generation of professionals, and make a tangible contribution to the decarbonization of regions. This collaboration will also help strengthen ties with industry and institutional stakeholders, while positioning Quebec as a leader in the energy transition.

 Quotes

“The shift toward solar energy is gaining momentum in Quebec. Through this partnership, our goal is to contribute to this growth with practical solutions that take into account Quebec’s specific conditions—such as cold weather, remote locations, and grid constraints—so that solar solutions can help drive the energy transition. By partnering with the University of Sherbrooke and the 3IT.Énergies platform, we’ll have the opportunity to develop and test solutions to accelerate their deployment here and in northern Quebec.”

– Frédéric Côté, CEO, Nergica

“Quebec has everything it needs to succeed in solar energy, but to achieve that, it’s essential to equip the industry with solid, proven projects that are compatible with our grids. “This agreement with Nergica allows us to pool our expertise to accelerate the development of smart microgrids, robust communication systems, and hybrid solutions tailored to northern conditions.”

-Jean-François Lerat, Executive Director of the 3IT.Énergies platform, Université de Sherbrooke
