Congratulations to Biome Renewables: FeatherEdge is expanding globally
Congratulations to Biome Renewables, which has just completed a real-world demonstration phase—a key milestone that enables them to continue the global commercialization of their FeatherEdge technology.
This innovation, which reduces wind turbine noise has been tested and validated on one of our wind turbines at our research site.
Launched in 2024, the performance validation project aimed to measure the behavior of the patented blade-tip technology on an operational wind turbine in challenging terrain and cold climates. Our team worked with Biome Renewables to test and refine their technology. The company now reports that this milestone has propelled its global commercialization.
The project
Biome Renewables' FeatherEdge, tested at the Nergica research site
Inspired by the silent flight of an owl, this serration technology—installed on wind turbine blades—relies on the principle of phase interference to make the blades’ movement even quieter. Our project had three objectives: to measure the noise reduction achieved after installation, to measure the wind turbine’s performance, and to validate the mechanical loads experienced by the machine.
