In northern climates, it is still essential to be able to rely on weather sensors that perform reliably in freezing conditions. In collaboration with TUGLIQ and Laval University, we have developed an innovative and reproducible methodology to evaluate different types of sensors under these conditions, with the goal of recommending the best equipment for use in cold climates and assessing the performance of a new frost sensor developed by Laval University.

Ten icing events were selected to test various sensors and compare their performance under real-world conditions. This analysis yielded concrete results to guide the selection of equipment best suited to the northern environment, including heated anemometers, various commercial frost detectors, and the new sensor developed by Laval University, which performed very well.
