Le projet

This project developed a methodology for qualifying different types of weather sensors under icing conditions. The aim was first to formulate recommendations on the best sensors to use in cold climates, and then to evaluate the performance of a new type of icing sensor developed by Université Laval.

Ten icing events were selected to evaluate the performance of various sensors during these episodes. The methodology developed as part of this project is both innovative and reproducible.

Highlights

Analysis of the ten icing events has highlighted concrete results that will help guide the choice of equipment in northern environments.

  • Heated anemometers subject to icing offer the best performance.

  • Some frost detectors offer better performance than others.

  • The frost sensor developed by Université Laval offers excellent performance.
