Lhe HRD4 fromVoltrais aoil separator system for high-voltage transformersand leak detection system.

As part of its applied research in energy asset management, Nergica is currently conducting a test campaign on the DRH4 system developed by Voltra. This technology, already recognized as a benchmark in the high-voltage sector, offers an active, intelligent approach to the environmental protection of power transformers.

Installed on Nergica's research site, the DRH4 is being evaluated under real-life conditions to validate its performance, reliability and potential for integration in electrical substations subject to harsh environments. The aim is to document its operational and environmental efficiency, and to support network operators in adopting innovative solutions for managing the risks associated with oil leaks.

Challenges

  • System adaptability to existing transformer base (porosity, levelling, ground level)
  • Leakage control in the primary retention basin
  • Flow management in the system (level issue)
  • Liquid recovery in winter conditions (melting ice)
  • System power supply (GFCI system)

Solutions

Instant water/oil separation

At the heart of the DRH4 is a high-performance separator capable of treating up to140 L/min. In the event of a leak or incident, it immediately separates hydrocarbons from rainwater, allowing clean water to be released into the environment and capturing100% of oilfor recycling.

Intelligent monitoring and early detection

Thanks to its integrated sensors and 24/7 connectivity, the DRH4 acts as a predictive diagnostic tool. It detects micro-leaks before they become critical, enabling targeted intervention and reducing the risk of production stoppages or contamination.

The system uses standard Modbus communication to send information to Nergica's data archiving system. A supervision screen was then created, along with e-mail/SMS alerts in the event of oil detection.

Robustness in extreme conditions

Designed for northern environments, the system maintains an operating efficiency of-40 °C to +50 °C. Its Canadian aluminum structure ensures high durability, even in the most exposed positions.

Simplified environmental compliance

The DRH4 allows operators to meet strict environmental standards without the need for heavy infrastructure such as concrete basins. It offers a zero-risk solution for soil contamination, while reducing civil engineering costs.
