Development of a Maintenance Plan-Integrated Fault Detection Tool for Wind Turbine Blades

Wind Power
Partners: Cartier Wind Energy, Collineo Inc.
Period of realization: September 2014 to May 2015

This project consisted of integrating blade inspection and repair databases to establish a link between telescopic inspections and subsequent repairs.

Three recommendations were made. First, the fault classification language should be standardized to facilitate the link between inspections and repairs. Subsequently, it is essential to add the metadata (by the blade manufacturer, turbine manufacturer, etc.) for each fault to allow for more detailed analysis. Lastly, files and folders should be standardized to facilitate access for users or software programs.

Hightlights

  • Integration of over 300 faults reported during repairs and more than 2,000 faults identified during telescopic inspections.
  • Two partners: Quebec-based SMEs
